Rialto Bridge
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest bridge across the Grand Canal in Venice, connecting the San Polo and San Marco districts. It is lined on both sides with shops and gives a great view of the canal.
The Bridge of Sighs
This bridge connects the Doge's Palace with the old prison. It was given the name 'The Bridge of Sighs' by Byron as it was supposedly the last view of Venice which a prison had before being imprisoned. It is possible to walk over the bridge yourself if you visit the Doge's Palace.
The Calatrava Bridge
The newest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal, the Calatrava Bridge was opened in 2008. It's arrival has been highly controversial as it cost a huge amount of money, was very delayed and has had continual problems since opening. It still does not have disabled access - although a pod to carry a wheelchair user has been constructed.
The Scalzi Bridge
This bridge is near the railway station in Venice and connects Cannaregio with Santa Croce. The current version dates from 1934.
