Cafes

Generally it costs a lot more to sit and drink in a cafe. The Italians stand at the bar and drink. The cheapest areas are around Santa Margherita where there are a lot of students.

Caffè Florian

The most famous cafe in Venice and the oldest in Italy. Florian's is in Saint Mark's Square. You can sit at a table outside (or inside in the Winter) and have an extremely expensive drink and soak up the atmosphere and music. Alternatively, you can stand at the bar, have a coffee and pay a more sensible price with the locals.

On a corner in Campo Santa Margherita, this bar has plenty of tables outside in the summer - a great place to sit and watch the world go by. They also do reasonably priced sandwiches and snacks.
