Run by the Diocese of Venice, this huge canteen-like diner around the back of the Doge's Palace offers what could well be the cheapest hot lunch in Venice. You get a pasta starter, a meaty or fishy secondo, a vegetable side and half a litre of water for €14 (just over £11 - prices correct Sep 2012).

The prix fixe menu here (open for lunch only) is likely the most cost effective and honest meal in Venice. Decent food, too :)
