In Venice you can usually eat in a bar in the evening. They will have a selection of 'cicchetti' (pronounced chicketti) on the bar which are like Venetian tapas.

Small pub in the San Luca square. Good for a pre-concert drink for the Goldoni.

El Sbarlefo Santi Apostoli
There are two El Sbarlefo bars in Venice. This one is just off the Santi Apostoli square. There are 4 seats outside and a good selection of cicchetti. In October 2016 a cappuccino was 4 Euros which is one of the highest prices we have come across outside Saint Mark's Square.
La Cantina
Small bar with great cichetti and indoor and outdoor seating. On the Strada Nova in Cannaregio.
Bar Torino
Not recommended. Lacks atmosphere. Poor customer service. Read the reviews on Tripadvisor.
