Historic palace with rooms full of artwork and dungeons. The palace offers a bit of variety, including decorated rooms with medieval Italian paintings and elaborate artwork, a show of medieval weapons and a little tour through the prisons/dungeons. While the artwork is interesting, I would rate the dungeons the highlight, especially for kids. We went in October and the queue was minimal at lunchtime, there was no need to pre-order. The self-guided tour takes about an hour.

Touristic and busy for a reason - overwhelmingly rich and over the top, week to wall paintings and ornate details. And the history, history, history. Read first, or get the audio guide. The line in the late afternoon is much less than after lunch or late morning. Takes 2-3 hours if you want to admire details. Beware of altered opening/closing times with no notice when official functions/events occur.

Absolutely stunning! Each room you walked into was bigger and more impressive than the last. The ceilings were covered in gold and the walls were covered in larger than life art pieces!

Just breathtaking! I highly recommend you spend a few hours here. I didn't pay for the head set tour guide, but I think I would next time. I found myself listening in to tour groups as they went past to get some information that wasn't in Italian.

I love this place. Very evocative, especially in the room with paintings of all the past doges. Look for the one where his face has been blacked out ; see if you can find out what he did to have the Venetian do this!
