Palazzo Mocenigo

Map

In 1945, Palazzo Mocenigo at San Stae was bequeathed to the city of Venice by Alvise Nicol, the last descendant of the family, to be used as a Gallery of Art, to supplement Museo Correr. In 1985, the overall project of the Musei Civici designated Palazzo Mocenigo as the seat of the Museum and Study Centre of the History of Fabrics and Costumes: it houses rich collections of ancient textiles and costumes mostly from the Correr, Guggenheim, and Cini collections. Palazzo Mocenigo also contains a well-stocked library specialising in the history of fabrics, costumes, and fashion. The library is situated in the rooms on the first-floor piano nobile that have not conserved their original furnishings; the stocks of fabrics and costumes are situated on the first mezzanine and on the top-floor. On the second mezzanine, an area has been set aside for didactic and experimental activities.

Completely renewed in 2013, the itinerary winds its way through 20 rooms, evoking a Venetian Palace of the 18th century. Unique also the new section dedicated to the history of Perfume, to be smelled!

Storerooms of the Museum, usually not accessible, offer an itinerary through fashion in the 18th Century not to be missed! Book online your visit in Italian and English with a specialised guide

Si tratta di un'antica Dimora Patrizia donata nel 1954 alla città con all'interno ancora il vecchio arredamento del '700. Oggi potete trovarvi il Museo del Tessuto e del Costume. Translate
