Isola dei Laghi

The "island of the lakes" is an island (8.5 ha in area) of the Venetian Lagoon. It is located immediately north of Mazzorbetto from which it is separated by a narrow canal called Canale del Taglio.

It is an island which was only constructed a few years ago: Until the 1960s it was an area of 'barene' (the very low lying banks of sand in the lagoon). However it was called Palude dei Laghi (swamp of the lakes) as it was used to take the sludge which had been removed when dredging canals. For this reason it has never been inhabited and is devoid of structures (aside from a few huts used in horticulture).

Since 1990, the island has been improved with the construction of some areas for growing vegetables. It is now planned to become an agronaturale park to be included in the complex of the Lagoon Park.

Largely owned by the city, only the southern portion, adjacent to the Canale del Taglio is private.
