Cason Montiron

Map

Cason Montiron is a small island of the Venetian Lagoon.

Uninhabited, it covers 1,630 m and is situated in front of the western embankment of Dog Valley, a fish farm at the northern end of the Venetian Lagoon.

The name Montiron comes from Venetian dialect and refers to the origin of the island from alluvial deposits. Cason, however, alludes to the presence of an agricultural building, existing since at least 1556, when the site begins to appear in historical documents. So Cason Montiron was not an island, but a rural building erected at the edge of the lagoon near the mouth of the Siloncello channel.

Currently the island is almost completely occupied by an old building in a state of abandonment, in the past used by fishermen from Burano as a base.
